MASUDA METHOD GUIDE!
The "Masuda Method" is a specific method to increase the chances of a shiny through egg breeding. In Generation IV, the odds are increased to 1/1639. In Generation V, they are increased further to 1/1366. As you can see, this is an EXTREMELY useful method for obtaining shinies. Here are some tips and tricks!
- First off: Beat the game. You need to, unless you have completed this sequence before, in which you can just trade over the necessary Pokes.
- Ok, you beat the game. Now go to the GTS. This can be found in Gen IV in Jubilife City. In Gen V, it is located in all Pokecenters.
- Now you're there. You want to decide your target shiny. After this, you want to do one of two things: Get a Ditto from a foreign country, or get the poke you are breeding. I recommend Ditto, as if you are planning on doing this more than once, it removes this step from all future hunts.
- So you have your foreign poke. Now you want to get a poke from your language. IMPORTANT: They can be 2 foreign pokes, as long as they are from different locations. If you are breeding two of the same pokes (e.g. magikarp-magikarp) make sure they are different genders. This is very important. Side note: you can also breed two different pokes in the same "Egg group". The egg will contain the female's offspring. Now put the two pokes in the day care.
- OPTIONAL BUT VERY RECOMMENDED STEP: Get a pokemon with the ability "Flame body" or "Magma armor". This will halve the steps needed to hatch an egg.
- Now that you have them in the day-care, deposit all pokes in your pc except one (If you have a Flame body/magma armor keep this one in your party). Now, run around until the man has an egg for you. You can tell this by: In D/P/PT your daycare app will show an egg when you refresh it. In HG/SS your phone will ring. In B/W the guy will call you as you walk into his line of sight. In any case, walk up to the guy and save your game.
- Now, talk to him, take the egg, and run back and forth. with any new eggs, get them. With a full party, just keep running until you hatch them. If no shinies appear, reset your game
- That's it! Enjoy your shinies!
